FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about visiting the clinic, what to expect, and how we work.

01

Your first visit

Before you arrive
What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear something comfortable that allows easy movement and access to the area being treated — loose-fitting clothing works well. You may be asked to remove outer layers depending on the treatment, and shorts or leggings are ideal for lower body work.

How long is the first appointment?

Your initial consultation is 60 minutes. This allows time for a thorough consultation and assessment, a clear explanation of your diagnosis, and hands-on treatment — all in the same session.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No — you can book directly without a GP referral. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners, which means you can contact us directly to make an appointment.

What should I bring with me?

Just yourself and any relevant medical information — such as scan or X-ray results, or a list of any medication you're taking. If you have a referral letter from your GP or consultant, bring that too.

Is there parking at the clinic?

Yes — pay-and-display parking is available on Blythe Road and surrounding streets. The clinic is also a 2-minute walk from Kensington Olympia station and 8 minutes from Hammersmith.

During treatment

What to expect
Will the treatment hurt?

Treatment should not be painful. Some techniques may cause mild temporary discomfort, particularly if an area is inflamed or very tight — but this is always discussed with you first. Your comfort is the priority throughout.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on your condition, how long you've had symptoms, and your goals. Some patients feel significant improvement after just a few sessions; others benefit from a short course of treatment. This will always be discussed with you clearly after your initial assessment.

What techniques do you use?

Treatment may include joint mobilisation and manipulation, soft tissue and muscle release techniques, postural and ergonomic advice, and rehabilitation guidance. Where appropriate, shockwave therapy may also be recommended. Every treatment plan is tailored to your individual needs.

Is osteopathy safe?

Yes — osteopathy is a safe and regulated healthcare profession in the UK. All osteopaths are registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), which sets and monitors standards of practice. Treatment is always adapted to your condition, history, and level of comfort.

Are there any side effects after treatment?

Some patients experience mild soreness, stiffness, or fatigue following treatment — similar to how you might feel after exercise. This is a normal response and usually settles within 24–48 hours. Staying hydrated and moving gently can help.

Do you offer advice on posture or desk setup?

Yes — practical advice is a core part of your treatment. We can guide you on your ergonomic desk setup, posture, and daily habits to help reduce strain and prevent symptoms from returning.

Pregnancy care

Mum & baby
Is osteopathy safe during pregnancy?

Yes — osteopathy is safe during pregnancy when carried out by a trained practitioner. All techniques are gentle, adapted to your stage of pregnancy, and focused on your comfort and wellbeing. If you have any medical concerns, we recommend consulting your midwife or GP first.

When can I start pregnancy osteopathy?

Treatment is generally recommended from the second trimester onwards, though this can vary depending on your individual circumstances. We'll always check for any contraindications before beginning treatment.

How soon after birth can I come in?

Postnatal osteopathy is typically recommended from 6 weeks after birth — or later if needed. A Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal assessment available at this stage. Please contact us to discuss your individual situation.

What is a Mummy MOT?

A Mummy MOT is a comprehensive postnatal assessment that focuses on your recovery after pregnancy and birth. It includes assessment of your posture, pelvic floor, core function, and overall wellbeing — with hands-on treatment and a personalised recovery plan.

What positions are used during pregnancy treatment?

We use safe, side-lying positioning with pillows and supports throughout to ensure your comfort and safety at every stage. Techniques are always gentle and adapted to your stage of pregnancy.
